This past weekend, we were finally over the colds such that we could run over to L’s house to let G and L exchange Christmas gifts. This was the first time Gman was able to interact with L for such a long period of time and they both were great together. She was such a wonderful playmate for G because she kept getting all kinds of toys out and then sharing them with G. It was very sweet. I hope BM and I can learn the techniques for installing such a sharing quality.
Grayson is doing well. All four of his front middle teeth have broken through and he has been learning about them by grinding them together when he is around mom and dad. They make such a wonderful little grinding, clicking, crackling sound that I just wish we could share it with everyone in internetville.
He loves the Johnny Jumper deal that hangs onto the door molding. Even when he isn’t in the jumper his legs act like he is. So, when we are changing a diaper our he is laying on his back, he jumps his little feet and wonders why the world isn’t moving like it does when he is in the jumper.
In tribute to his love for the jumper, I pulled out the camera and took a few pics yesterday.
Well, it has been a while since I updated you on G so I thought I would take what is a slow day at the office and write a post. G’s first Christmas and New Year were good. We traveled out of town for a few days and in spite of having a new big boy car seat, sleeping in the pack and play, traveling, having new teeth coming in, and having a cold, Grayson managed exceptionally well. His parents on the other hand didn’t do as well. The three of us had a cold that was very draining. Luckily, our progress was off slightly so when a bad day hit me, BM was able to take care of G and so on. Overall, he had a great time visiting with family and friends over the holiday. We are all still fighting this cold, but we are feeling much better.
As I mentioned above, Grayson has a few more teeth coming in. His two top middle teeth are coming in together, although one is a few days behind the other. His bottom teeth are also growing pretty fast and we have started taking time to rub them down with a cloth every night as a means of brushing them.
He is still eating very well and growing fast. We haven’t officially measured him lately, but the breakfast table stands 28 inches off the ground and he easily hits his head on it if he isn’t paying attention. I would guess his height is probably about 28.5-29 inches tall. I would guess his weight to be about 25lbs.
G is really starting to get around. He is a very fast crawler but he definitely wants to be upright and moving. He pulls up on nearly everything and does a great job keeping his balance so long as he is holding on to something. Because of this, he has learned how to handle a fall much better than before. His is now 8.5 months old and I am going to guess that he will be walking a little by 10-11 months.
Below are a few pictures I took of G the yesterday. Happy New Year!
Just a quick update to let you know that on Sunday we noticed Grayson’s bottom two middle teeth about to break through his lower gums. As of last night, his left tooth had broken through and the right isn’t too far behind. So far, his demeanor has been great in terms of dealing with what I would think is a painful process. He is still the happy little baby that we all know so well.
As an aside I wore braces for two+ years as an adult and dealt with all that pain. So seeing G’s teeth cutting through his gums brings those memories flooding back. You know, it is like seeing someone with an eyelash or hair on their eyeball - just makes my eyes water thinking about it.
Since the time change a week or so ago, Gman has continued to wake up around his “normal time.” In the past, he has slept about 11 hours a night which puts him waking up about 6am. This means he likes to wake up now at 5am since the time dropped back an hour. For what it is worth, the current time as I write this is 5:37am and he is still asleep. Maybe he is getting the idea that he can sleep later if he wants :)
Here are a few pictures I snapped from the video camera we have over his crib. As you can see, yesterday, he was up and adam pulling himself up the side of the crib trying to see “what’s out there.” The camera is a night vision camera so to him it was dark when these pictures were taken.
Speaking of climbing, he works really hard on his crawling and standing ever day. He is very determined and I think that the frustration that comes with being determined has driven him to this point. We will lower the crib mattress again this weekend so as to avoid having a broken armed baby :)
Gman turns 6 months old this Tuesday. Hard to believe. As such we are using the weekend to start him on food. I don’t fully understand the entire long term feeding schedule yet, but for the time being, he is allowed to have a couple tablespoons of rice cereal each day. This morning was his first feeding and you can see his first bite in the photo below. Since I had the camera gear out, I took a few more pics and thought we would share them. Hope everyone is having a great weekend.
We took some pictures last weekend as well as measuring and weighing Gman. I’ve had a small post-it stuck to my computer all week with the measurements as a means to remind me to post it for you all. G’s weight last weekend was 19lbs and his height was 28.25″. He seems to be growing right before our eyes. Below are a few of the pictures we took last weekend.
The weekend has been good for Gman. Everyday he responds just a little quicker to a noise or stimulus. Everyday he babbles a little more and squirms a little farther. Everyday he sits up longer before tumping over and he pushes up stronger than he did the day before. And everyday he sees a little better. It is just amazing to watch the changes as they happen so quickly - unlike me putting on weight (I don’t see it until my pants don’t fit anymore :)
Below are a few pics of G from this weekend. As you can see, he loves his superman pose and he has begun to try and “embrace” the incessant clicking of the shutter on the camera.
Well, things are going fine here. Gman continues to grow and improve in his awareness and communication skills. He loves to make this really high pitched squeal at the cat and dog. He giggles when I help him fly like superman. And, when he is frustrated he makes these cute little grunting noises.
He is still on a three nap schedule with five feedings during the day. He usually sleeps about 11 hours at night and about 4 hours or so during the day. Sometime around 6 months we will begin to incorporate cereal into his diet and he will go to two naps a day and four feedings a day. I am just looking forward to those diapers.
During the day, we give him plenty of time in the bumpo chair to let him work on his ability to sit up. He also gets plenty of tummy time which usually consists of him holding his arms out in front of him and lifting his legs up behind him. Actually, having spent a few sessions in the gym doing something similar, I am surprised he can indure as much “flying” as he does.
G is very good at lifting up the front of his body with his arms but his legs and torso stay on the ground - think lazy man’s pushup. He isn’t crawling yet, but I can see the wheels turning as he tries to figure out how to move from point a to b. Usually, in trying to move from a to b, when he is on his stomach, he trows his arms and legs up and down in one quick motion as if he was trying to blink himself along. It is very cute to us, but a little frustratiing to him.
Below are a few pictures we took this afternoon. In two of the pictures, you will see G pretending to be me as I am sure I look just as silly sitting in front of my computer all day. I love my family :)
We have been busy as usual but it was a productive and fun weekend. We weighed and measured G for his 5 month and 1 week birthday. He is 18lbs 3oz and is 27 1/2 inches long. That keeps him in the 90th percentile for length and moves him to the 80th for weight. G is now working every day to strengthen his core so he can sit up like his daddy. He lays on his belly and lifts his arms and legs, holding them as long as he can. He does this over and over, reminding me that I should be working out too.
