End of September Update

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

The weekend has been good for Gman.  Everyday he responds just a little quicker to a noise or stimulus.  Everyday he babbles a little more and squirms a little farther.  Everyday he sits up longer before tumping over and he pushes up stronger than he did the day before.  And everyday he sees a little better.  It is just amazing to watch the changes as they happen so quickly - unlike me putting on weight (I don’t see it until my pants don’t fit anymore :)

Below are a few pics of G from this weekend.  As you can see, he loves his superman pose and he has begun to try and “embrace” the incessant clicking of the shutter on the camera.

Weekend Update

Sunday, September 21st, 2008

Well, things are going fine here.  Gman continues to grow and improve in his awareness and communication skills.  He loves to make this really high pitched squeal at the cat and dog.  He giggles when I help him fly like superman.  And, when he is frustrated he makes these cute little grunting noises.

He is still on a three nap schedule with five feedings during the day.  He usually sleeps about 11 hours at night and about 4 hours or so during the day.  Sometime around 6 months we will begin to incorporate cereal into his diet and he will go to two naps a day and four feedings a day. I am just looking forward to those diapers.

During the day, we give him plenty of time in the bumpo chair to let him work on his ability to sit up.  He also gets plenty of tummy time which usually consists of him holding his arms out in front of him and lifting his legs up behind him.  Actually, having spent a few sessions in the gym doing something similar, I am surprised he can indure as much “flying” as he does.

G is very good at lifting up the front of his body with his arms but his legs and torso stay on the ground - think lazy man’s pushup.  He isn’t crawling yet, but I can see the wheels turning as he tries to figure out how to move from point a to b.  Usually, in trying to move from a to b, when he is on his stomach, he trows his arms and legs up and down in one quick motion as if he was trying to blink himself along.  It is very cute to us, but a little frustratiing to him.

Below are a few pictures we took this afternoon.  In two of the pictures, you will see G pretending to be me as I am sure I look just as silly sitting in front of my computer all day.  I love my family :)

Gpers it’s Gman

Sunday, September 21st, 2008

We have been busy as usual but it was a productive and fun weekend.  We weighed and measured G for his 5 month and 1 week birthday.  He is 18lbs 3oz and is 27 1/2 inches long.  That keeps him in the 90th percentile for length and moves him to the 80th for weight.  G is now working every day to strengthen his core so he can sit up like his daddy.  He lays on his belly and lifts his arms and legs, holding them as long as he can.  He does this over and over, reminding me that I should be working out too.

Daddy Daycare

Saturday, September 6th, 2008

I am sure there are plenty of you out there that know I do need daycare, but that isn’t want I am talking about. Today, BM had to take care of some work at the office, so I have been watching Gman. Usually, I only get to spend a couple hours a day with him, but today has been fun. He is learning to fly and dance and laugh and write blog entries (not that I do any of those things very well). None-the-less, we did squeeze in some photo time and I thought you would enjoy seeing him today.

Labor Day Weekend Update

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

We took a couple days to spend some time at the beach with friends.  It was G’s first major trip and he passed it with flying colors.  In fact, I would say he is now experienced enough to be Vice President :)  But seriously, he does have more potty experience than all the candidates combined.

G traveled very well.  Our drive time was about 3.5 hours each way and he pretty much slept the entire way.  On the trip to the beach, we stopped once to feed him in an effort to disrupt his schedule as little as possible.  Our trip back was better planned so that we didn’t have to stop to keep him on his schedule.  While at the beach, he stayed on schedule with three naps a day and a nice long sleepy time at night.  While there, I was able to spend some time taking a few pictures which you can see below.  As you can see, we picked him up a pair of super fly sunglasses.  It was hard to keep the ladies away :)

He is growing so fast, I can almost see it.  Just in the last couple of days, he is pushing way up on his hands and starting to get up on his knees in a crawling position.  He hasn’t yet mastered how to turn over from his front to his back, but he does achieve his goal by pushing way up on his arms and letting the weight of his big head (yes he is my boy) tump him over on his back.  We only let him perform this magical stunt in his padded cell - aka his crib.  G continues to improve his hand eye coordination so he is no longer really scooping things from the air, rather he is actively reaching for them.

G has become more vocal lately and is laughing more.  Most of the time his laughs could easily be confused for some kind of strange cough, but once you have heard him put several of them together back to back, you know it is a laugh.  He wakes up happy nearly every morning and is sleeping on his stomach at night now.  If fact, when he wakes up in the morning, his face is very puffy and swollen from sleeping on it.  He asked me to get him some cucumbers for his eyes, but his mom and I have decided that should wait a few more years.  (For those keeping score, we have now had three 12 hours nights in a row - woo hoo)

As you might know, we have a cat.  G loves to watch the cat and the cat somehow knows to keep clear of G - not that he could do anything to her yet.  But, maybe the kitty cat sense is kicking in to warn her of the future.

Most evenings, we take a walk around the neighborhood.  G likes to ride on my chest and stomach in the baby bjorn and BM walks the dog with us.  It is big time fun for G as he loves to look at the trees and bushes along the way.  Usually, as we walk under some trees in the neighborhood you can see him tilting his head way back to see the contrast of the tree against the sky.  It is very cute.

One thing that BM and I find interesting is that G still eats the same amount he did at two months old.  He currently eats about 30-31oz a day and usually feeds five times a day.  We are hoping to make it to at least six months before we start feeding him food for several reasons, not the least of which is that I don’t think I will be able to handle a diaper that is much worse than the diapers he currently makes.

Well, that’s about all that comes to mind right now.  I am home baby sitting for the afternoon, so I thought I would get you all updated on all that’s going on around here.
