Just a short entry to let you know that Grayson Reid was born this morning. He weighed in at 8lbs 13.5oz and was 21.5 inches long. Both Grayson and BM are doing well. Below are a few images from today. Hope to add more tomorrow.
Last night when I was demonstrating the proper technique for changing a baby’s diaper, I went ahead and took a few pictures of the baby’s room. I think we are about as ready to go as we can be :) We will keep you updated as we know more.
A friend of ours had a few gifts dropped off at the office today. One of the gifts was for me and it was awesome. It was a baby diaper changing kit for dads and included a small tool belt, half a dozen diapers, some butt paste, baby powder, latex gloves, safety goggles, a clothespin for my nose, and a large plastic tarp to cover up all that a baby might try to dirty up during the diaper changing process. It really was a great gift and afforded me the opportunity to tell everyone around me today how great I am at changing diapers.
Well, BM had enough of me telling her how easy it will be to change a diaper. When we arrived home from the doctor’s visit this evening, she decided it was time for me to put up or shut up. So, I jumped at the challenge and decided to use a stuffed bear we have in Grayson’s room. Below are some photos of how well I did. I think you all will agree I am clearly ready to handle a new baby.
(By the way, you can click on these pictures if you want to see my expertise in a larger format :)
The visit went well with the doctor this afternoon. Apparently the doctor believes Grayson is still wanting to stay put for a little while so the doctor is now considering inducing on Monday the 14th based on the baby’s size and whatnot. We will keep you posted as we know more :)
Today marks the end of the 39th week and I wanted to give you all an update. Things are going well but BM is afraid she is about to pop. Grayson doesn’t appear - to our untrained eyes - to have dropped any since last week. Last week the doctor indicated that Grayson was probably at a +2 position and our next doctors appointment is this Wednesday. At that next visit we figure the doctor will give us an idea if they will need to induce or what since we are moving into the last week. However, we will again reiterate with the doctor our desire to perhaps avoid one of the most dreaded days in America - Tax Day.
BM is still working everyday and has been about as efficient as I can remember anytime recently. She is starting to tire each day about three or four in the afternoon which suits me fine since I can work at home just about as well as I can at the office.
For the most part, I drive BM around rather than risking her being behind the wheel with an airbag deployment. We keep a towel and such in the back seat since we know broken water probably is in our near future.
Our dog clearly knows something is up as she has been more needy than in the past months. However, we have attributed that to the fact that her grandmother (BM’s mom) has been around the last couple of weeks and she works really hard to break the healthy habits BM and I have trained into our dog :)
This past weekend was another photo session. These standing up sessions have become more difficult for BM as the blood tends to pool in her legs and ankles if she is up and standing still to long. So, I have to shoot a few shots and let her take a break and then shoot a few more.
Speaking of breaks, the green couch photo below is one we setup in our old workout room that has become a temporary storage facility until I can take down all my lighting and camera gear. This is the couch BM would use to take a load off while I rearranged lights or whatnot. But, when I walked in onetime, it was clear that I had to take a photo and to help bring up the absurdity of the shot, we brought in even more junk from other rooms in the house just to push it over the top. The last straw came when I asked BM to use the air pump to “inflate” her stomach. We both laughed our butts off while making the shot, so it was worth it in the end.
The truth is, as the photos can attest, she has been a wonderful sport in my attempt to document this adventure she and I have chosen to enter during our life together. But, if you ever see me walking around with a camera lens jammed into my head or a flash burn on my forehead, you will know she finally had enough.
We are taking Grayson to his first baseball game tonight, although I don’t think he will remember it ;) I picked up a new lens for my camera and wanted to snap a few pics of BM before heading out to the ball park.
Since being pregnant, BM has forgone certain foods such as processed meat and alcohol. So, she won’t be able to enjoy a hot dog or beer tonight. I thought I would go ahead and step up and be a dad so I will have a couple of both tonight :)
Otherwise, all is well on our end. The baby’s room is nearly finished so I will try to snap a few pics this weekend to share with everyone.
