Earth Day

Earth Day
Today is Earth Day and it is a beautiful day to celebrate our home. As many of you know, the Dr. Seuss book The Lorax is one of my all time favorite kids books. As G continues to grow, we hope to help him better appreciate the third rock from the sun that we live on. If you haven’t read the Lorax, I would highly recommend picking up a copy to share with the children in your family.

In celebration of Earth Day, I thought I would share a photo we took at the end of BM’s 40th week of pregnancy.

Earth Day

It has been a few days since I posted an update. BM is still recovering and she had a slight setback yesterday. She was having some abdominal pain and a slight fever so I took her to the doctor. Turns out a urinary track infection she had the week leading up to G’s birth is still around and may have moved up into her bladder. The doctor prescribed some antibiotics which she began yesterday. Hopefully, over the next five day, the infection will clear up.

In the meantime, BM and I have decided to forgo breast feeding to avoid having all those antibiotics flowing through him so early. After having a chemical free pregnancy, it was tough for BM to take the antibiotics for the last four days before G’s birth but it was a must as the infection could have caused early labor and, as you may recall, BM’s doctor was out of town and wouldn’t have been the doctor to birth Grayson had she gone into labor early. Anyway, we know have a choice about whether or not G has any antibiotics flowing through him and we have chosen to avoid them.

Grayson is moving along nicely. We had a schedule visit with the pediatrician this past Sunday. His weight was up to 8lbs 4oz (he was 8lbs 1oz when we left the hospital). She told us that our goal was to have him back up to his birth weight by two weeks from his birth. At least we are heading in the right direction. She also told us she felt like his Jaundice was looking better and didn’t expect to have to test him again. The whites of his eyes still have a slight yellow tint to them, but they are much better than what they were when we brought him home from the hospital.

The pediatrician also checked out his baby parts and said we have a healthy “bright eyed” baby boy. She also told us G’s circumcision looks good and so does his umbilical cord. I can’t remember if I mentioned or not, but in the hospital they did some kind of hearing test on G and everything was fine.
