Day Three
Today was Grayson’s third day kickin’ it with us. We are still at the hospital as BM is recovering from the birth. Both Grayson and BM are doing well and I think we will leave the hospital tomorrow.
Each morning BM’s doctor and Grayson’s pediatrician visit and spend about five to ten minutes answering our questions. They have both been great sports about our constant set of questions.
The nurses here at the hospital have been fantastic. On Monday Grayson was the only baby born in the hospital so we had constant attention from all the staff. Yesterday, there were eleven babies delivered in the hospital so the level of attention provided, dropped as you would expect. But the nurses have always made time to demonstrate techniques and answer our constant questions.
While staying in the hospital Grayson is assigned to the baby nurse and BM is assigned to the nurse that tends to the mothers. I would say that at least every couple of ours someone is coming in to check or tend to one or the other.
For the most part, Grayson has stayed with us in the room during the day and at night we let the nursery and baby nurse keep him. Every couple of hours they bring him down for a feeding and then they take him back and keep him until the next feeding.
The diaper changing and feedings have all been fine. Both BM and I have learned alot about tending to an infant and suspect we will keep learning over the coming weeks and months.
The food has been fine. Nothing stellar but nothing you wouldn’t eat. It is food you would have been fed in school. I suspect it is probably terribly difficult to cook for hundreds of people several times a day which must really limit the “chef’s” ability to produce fine cuisine.
One thing that has been interesting to me is to see the hospital come to life and go to sleep each day. There are many people moving in and around the hospital each day and each person has their own story. You can really tell how big this place is when you go to the lunchroom for a break as things are always moving there around the standard meal times.
The room we are in has seen many of our friends and family over the past couple of days. Things also smell great around here because we have many bouquets of flowers, balloons, and other gifts. Thanks to everyone for your well wishes and thoughts.
Like I said, tomorrow is checkout day we think. I have the car seat in the car and we are ready to go. Once we get home we will have to figure out a few things :)
Alright, time to get back to being daddy for a little while. Just thought you would like an update.
Below are a few pictures from today. Don’t forget you can click on an image to see a larger version of it.
